Decorations & Warm Colours Against Dull, Drab Days

Autumn is a wonderful time of year, setting the trees ablaze with fiery colours and once again painting the landscape in a riot of colour with its brush and palette. Unfortunately, autumn is also the season of mist and rain. As lovely as a sunny autumn day can be, there are often gloomy days when everything is shrouded in grey.

Colours help

Colours indoors help us cope with the dreary weather outside. They bring life into the home, create a particular mood, brighten up our own four walls and create a genuine feel-good atmosphere.

But how can we make our living spaces feel more inviting without undertaking major redesigns or even building work, or repainting the walls? The clever and simple answer is decoration.

Clever decoration

With the right decorations, you can easily and quickly create effects and accents that help you leave the stresses of everyday life behind. A well-placed lamp, for example, in a corner, a niche or on a windowsill provides the warm glow that is often missing on dark days. It is quite simple: switch on the lamp and leave the autumn blues behind. The only important thing is to choose a bulb that gives off warm light. Sitting in cold light is unlikely to lift your spirits.

Candles, candlesticks and tea-light holders also help create a cosy atmosphere. The gentle shadows cast by candles, flickering softly across the walls, bring a sense of life to any room.

All that is missing now are vibrant colours to add a splash of colour and a personal touch of cosiness to every room. This is also very easy to achieve with cushions, blankets, vases or pictures. That way, you will look forward to coming home, enjoying a cosy evening or spending a relaxing weekend there, even on dreary days.

Which colours should you choose?

Last but not least, the only question remaining is which colours are best suited to which areas of the home.

Orange, for example, is said to stimulate the appetite and lift the mood. From this point of view, it is ideal for dining areas and playrooms.

Yellow is also a wonderful colour, as it virtually brings sunshine into the home. Yellow is suitable for any room, harmonises very well with darker colours and stimulates the mind.

A red that is too bold can appear aggressive, but a softer shade of red can help save on heating costs, as the colour conveys energy and warmth.

A touch of pink soothes the mind in the bedroom.

Blue has a strongly calming and relaxing effect on most people.

Green is a colour said to encourage creativity.

Violet, much like purple, conveys elegance and flair, provided it is not overused. Unfortunately, dark colours always absorb a lot of light, which is why they should be used sparingly during the winter months. Cream and white are better alternatives.
