Description

A simple glass with a downright simple principle. The solar glass stores energy during the day, which it emits at night in the form of light. The solar glass is ideal as a garden lamp and creates a cozy, idyllic evening atmosphere.

You can turn on the glass on with a switch on the magnetic strap. The four solar-powered LED lights create a beautiful glow. You can customize the interior of the glass to your liking: consider using sand, dried flowers, or stones. Let your imagination run wild!

Fair trade:

The idea for the solar glass was connected with people from the start . It is therefore socially sustainable. It should not only capture sunlight, but add a little to the lives of people around it.

Since 2011, the "Suntoy" Solar Glass has been hand-produced in South Africa. This created more than 60 jobs. The glass is supplied by Consol, a large glass company from Johannesburg.

At the "Suntoy" factory, workers are trained and obtain a professional qualification.
The company is based on the principles of Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), certifications for responsible business and sustainable development.

Fair pay is not the only issue important to the company. European distribution has established a fund that currently finances one hour per day of further employee training in mathematics and English, during business hours.

The history:

  • South Africa's informal settlements. there is not reliable power, so kerosene lamps and candles are used primarily as light sources, which can cause severe fires. In 2010, the South African electrical engineer Harald Schulz of SUNTOY commissioned the Consol manufacturer from Johannesburg to develop from a solar lamp jar. The aim was to establish a safe reading light for these areas, without a fire risk. Five years later, more than 750,000 of these solar lamps have already been produced. In South Africa, the solar glass (Consol SolarJar ™) is a cult favourite.
