Balconies, however, are often overlooked. They shouldn't be! Proper decoration can make for wonderfully relaxing moments outdoors. Read on for our tips on setting up a stylish balcony. Most balconies have great potential for improvement. The good news is, today we have more options available for decorating than ever before. Choose your style Let's start with the basics. What style of balcony would you like? With the right outdoor furniture, simple planters and green potted plants you can create a relaxed lounge atmosphere. Would you prefer a maritime style with blue and white accessories? Or perhaps Oriental elements? Choose decorations that match your favourite style to accessorise your balcony. The floor is the foundation Now that you've chosen your favourite style, you can go ahead and choose the right floor. There is a wide range of affordable outdoor carpets available these days in addition to tiles and wooden floors. The last two options are much easier to clean. Wood is pleasant even when it is hot outside as it does not absorb as much heat as tiles do. If you live in a rented apartment, you can use wooden floor tiles that click together instead of a permanently installed wooden floor. Add colour The simplest way to quickly beautify your balcony is to add colour. Paint the walls or freshen up old wooden furniture with a new coat of paint. Use colourful tablecloths and tableware. Colours will liven up your balcony and give it a completely different look. What if my balcony is small? You can be comfortable on any balcony, no matter how small. Save space by storing folding furniture on wall hooks. They can then be stowed on the wall to save space. Instead of using flower pots, attach planters to the railing or use hanging baskets. Small storage containers that double as stools are a good idea. Lighting creates the right atmosphere You will need to add a source of light so that you can enjoy your balcony even once it gets dark. Lanterns and oil lamps are great options that provide cosy, inviting light. For larger balconies, consider a fire bowl. Fires provide warm light and create a wonderful atmosphere. You can also choose from a wide range of battery-powered portable lights. LED lamps consume little power while solar lamps might be a good option for your balcony too. South, West, North, East - What difference does the orientation make? The direction your balcony faces should play a major role in your balcony design. A sunbed on a north-facing balcony makes little sense, for example. A south-facing balcony, on the other hand, is perfect for relaxing hours spent in the sun. If your balcony is large enough, adding cosy furniture for sunbathing is ideal. But bear in mind that it can get really hot at the height of summer. A sun umbrella, sun sail or other means of shade is essential. If you have plants, make sure they are sun tolerant and don't forget to water them regularly. East and west balconies facing balconies have about half a day of sun. East-facing balconies get the golden light of the morning sun. A breakfast table is a great idea here. A west-facing balcony is ideal for people who work during the day as they can enjoy the sun after work. Such a balcony is perfect for dinner and may need a sun umbrella. Plants that thrive in half shade are ideal for these balconies. North-facing balconies are not ideal if you enjoy being in the sun but they are a refreshing place to hang out on very hot days. It is important to mention that furniture kept on north-facing balconies will not have a chance to dry out in the sun so make sure you get mould-resistant furniture. Wooden furniture should be carefully cleaned after summer. Choose shade-loving plants. <![CDATA[Steam clothes instead of ironing them: Save time and protect your clothes]]> 2024-04-17T00:00:00+02:00 2024-04-17T00:00:00+02:00 https://www.interismo.co.uk/info/magazine/steam-clothes-instead-of-ironing-them-save-time-and-protect Interismo uk@interismo.com https://www.interismo.co.uk/ Why steaming? As it starts getting warmer, chances are you're planning on grilling soon. We have put together a few helpful tips and tricks to ensure that the barbecue party is an absolute success. The most important question of all Not all grills are the same, as professionals will say. But which type of grill is the best? The true aroma of smoke can only be achieved with a classic charcoal grill. Available in different sizes and shapes, charcoal grills are perfect for use in your own garden. But smaller table grills with charcoal are also becoming increasingly popular. These compact models are not only suitable for the balcony but are also easy to transport and take along for picnics at the park or a trip to the beach. A gas grill is another option - it is easier and quicker to heat up and is also easier to maintain the desired temperature. Yet another option - especially for smaller groups - is an electric grill. It is easy to use, heats up quickly and easy to clean as well. Get your taste buds tingling The right marinade gives meat, fish and vegetables a real boost of flavour. It is best to marinade for at least 2 to 3 hours before grilling. Simply mix the food you want to grill with your favourite marinade and refrigerate n a sealed container. Make sure you use a vegetable oil in your marinade that can withstand high temperatures. That way the marinade will retain all its flavours while grilling. Also, avoid adding salt because salt tends to suck out water and your grilled food will end up being too dry. Tools and accessories There are a few grilling accessories that are worth investing in. Some you will probably have in your kitchen anyway - such as a sharp knife for cutting meat. An ergonomically shaped paring knife is gentle on the sensitive muscles of the wrist and hand. A pair of sturdy tongs and a good pair of heat-resistant gloves are also highly recommended. If you avoid using single-use aluminium trays you will avoid producing unnecessary waste. Use grill mats made of silicone instead. Grilled skewers are always popular. But be careful while using skewers to prevent injuries caused by the pointed tips. A thermometer to check the temperature and a kitchen timer are also recommended to make sure you are grilling at the desired temperature for the right amount of time. And finally, if you'd like to avoid staining your best party clothes, a large apron is your best friend. Grilling your food Food should only placed on the grill once it has been heated to the right temperature. It takes only a few minutes for gas or electric grills to be heated up. A charcoal grill, on the other hand, can take anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes to reach the right temperature. You can start once the coals turn grey and the grate is really hot. The temperature also depends on what you are planning to grill. For most foods a temperature between 150°C to 200°C is sufficient. A good steak though needs a temperature of 280° to 300°C. If your grill has a lid, keep it closed while it heating up. It is also recommended to keep the lid closed while grilling to speed things up and to ensure that food is evenly cooked on all sides. After grilling = before grilling A grill can last for many years with proper cleaning and a little care. It is a good idea to use the heat of a hot grill to keep it clean. After grilling but before your grill cools down, use a wire brush to clean the grate of your charcoal grill. Pick up a hot charcoal briquette with a pair of tongs and rub it over the grate to burn off any residues. In case of an electric or gas grill, you will need to heat it up again to clean your grate effectively. Once the grill has completely cooled down, dispose of the ash and remaining briquettes in your household waste bin. If your grate is stubbornly dirty, you will need to use a special cleaning product. With hot water and a cleaning cloth, you can restore your grate to its former shining glory and is ready for use again. The right size cover will keep your grill protected from the elements. Last but not least - set the table with a tablecloth, plates, flatware, napkins, glasses and refreshing drinks. It's time now to sit down with your guests and enjoy a wonderful meal. Bon appetit! Here you will find our range of grills, cutlery, knives, aprons and much more! <![CDATA[Brabantia “Sort & Go”: Smart Waste Separation for a Sustainable Lifestyle]]> 2024-03-18T00:00:00+01:00 2024-03-18T00:00:00+01:00 https://www.interismo.co.uk/info/magazine/brabantia-sort-go-smart-waste-separation-for-a-sustainable Interismo uk@interismo.com https://www.interismo.co.uk/ Sort and recycle your waste easily with smart waste separation systems that also look great. Good for you and for the environment. The amount of waste we produce is increasing every year in spite of growing awareness of its impact on our climate. There are several factors at play here. For instance, only glass and paper have high rates of recycling and reuse while a lot of other waste such as food packaging ends up in our organic waste bins. Furthermore, not separating individual packaging components often prevents packaging materials from being effectively recycled. But in times of climate change and reducing CO2 emissions, there's simply no option but to reduce the amount of waste we produce and get better about recycling. The best place to start is at home! Avoid, Separate, Recycle! The best waste is of course that which is never created in the first place! By consciously purchasing reusable bottles and unpackaged food and by using reusable containers and fabric bags for shopping, each of us can contribute to protecting precious natural resources. Because what is not produced does not have to be disposed of. However, where waste is unavoidable, we should recycle as much as possible and the first step towards recycling is the careful separation of waste. A Classic Example: The Good Old Yoghurt Container A lot of packaging used to be made entirely of a single material such as plastic but nowadays it is often made up of different materials. Case in point - the widely available yoghurt cups in most stores are often made up of plastic with a cardboard sleeve and an aluminium lid. Although the entire cup is discarded as a whole in the recycling bin for plastic, ideally it should be separated into its individual components. This is the only way for the sorting system to recognise each material for effective sorting. Even if it is space-saving, it is not a good idea to nest similar packaging/containers into each other as this can confuse automated sorting systems and possibly prevent the materials from being correctly recognised. Not all paper packaging is the same as regular paper that goes into the paper recycling bin. If it has a coating (for example, paper packaging for frozen foods), it needs to be placed in the recycling bin for plastic. Brabantia “Sort & Go” - A Practical Way to Separate Your Waste Carefully sorting and separating waste is not easy but the cleverly designed "Sort & Go" collection by Brabantia makes it easier. The beautifully designed bins available in different sizes and fresh colours are a convenient and practical way to separate your household waste. From containers for organic waste suitable for small kitchens to stackable separation systems, the Dutch specialist in waste management offers the right solution for every situation. Stylish, Practical, Clever The well-designed bins with removable hinged lids, sturdy handles and comfortable recessed grips on the back allow you to easily transport as well as empty the waste. Furthermore, the lid flap remains open, making it easier to deposit waste in the bins as well. The different sizes and colours can be easily combined to create a unique look that does not need to be hidden out of sight! The thoughtful design even hides the unsightly edges of the perfectly fitting bin liners so nothing disturbs the clean lines and tidy overall appearance. Plastic is not only harmful to the environment but also poses health risks if it comes into contact with food. In this blog article, you can find out how to make your kitchen plastic-free and help protect the environment. 1. Avoid single-use plastic: Single-use plastic products such as disposable cups & plates, cling film and plastic shopping bags are some of the biggest sources of plastic waste. Replace them with sustainable alternatives such as reusable containers, beeswax cloths and reusable shopping bags. 2. Buy loose food: Many foods are unnecessarily packaged in plastic. Instead, buy fresh produce and other foods at markets or unpackaged food shops where you can buy foods that are not packaged or shrink-wrapped in plastic. Take your own reusable containers and bags to pack and carry your groceries home. 3. Use glass and stainless steel containers: Glass and stainless steel containers are eco-friendly alternatives to plastic containers for food storage. They are long-lasting, easy to clean and reusable. 4. Use sustainable kitchen utensils: Swap disposable wooden and plastic utensils for durable and sustainable alternatives made of bamboo, stainless steel or wood from certified sustainable forestry. 5. Cook at home: Avoid ready meals and snacks in plastic packaging and cook your meals at home with fresh ingredients instead. This way you'll not only reduce your plastic use, you'll also eat healthier. 6. Compost your organic waste: Set up a composting system to recycle organic waste such as vegetable trimmings, coffee grounds and eggshells. This will help you reduce the amount of waste you produce as well as your plastic use. 7. Share your knowledge: Share your experiences of a plastic-free kitchen and its benefits with friends and family and encourage them to join you as you show them it is not only possible but also not hard to achieve. Together you can make a positive contribution to protect the environment. By following these tips and doing away with plastic in your kitchen you are taking important steps to protect the environment while at the same time leading a healthier and more sustainable lifestyle. Small changes can make a big difference - start today! <![CDATA[The Importance of Staying Hydrated]]> 2024-03-08T00:00:00+01:00 2024-03-08T00:00:00+01:00 https://www.interismo.co.uk/info/magazine/the-importance-of-staying-hydrated Interismo uk@interismo.com https://www.interismo.co.uk/ Water is incredibly important for the human body. Without this precious liquid, it will not function properly. To grasp the importance of water compared with food just consider this: a person can survive for up to a month without anything to eat, but only a few days without water. A common problem is that many people wait to feel thirsty before they have a drink. By then, however, it is actually already too late. You only feel thirsty when there is already a fluid deficit in the body. In the long run, this is not good for health. This is why it is important to keep drinking water throughout the day even if you don't feel thirsty. The ideal goal should be to drink 2 litres a day by evening. What happens if we don't drink enough? At around 70%, water is the main component of the human body (the proportion decreases with age). Blood is also largely made up of water and if the body has a fluid deficit, blood becomes thicker and can no longer flow very well. As a result, the entire body is poorly supplied with oxygen, which affects overall performance as well as the ability to concentrate. Furthermore, a sustained lack of sufficient fluids increases the risk of developing urinary tract infections, kidney stones and constipation. Skin and mucous membranes also dry out, making it easier for bacteria and viruses to enter the body and spread. How to drink more To ensure that you drink enough each day, you can incorporate a few easy habits into your daily routine. Drink a glass of water first thing in the morning after getting up. This not only contributes to your daily goal of two litres but also serves to replenish your body's water reserves. A lot of fluid evaporates during the night and the body needs replenishment. Furthermore, water (especially when it is lukewarm) stimulates digestion and wakes you up. It is best to stick to water. Tea, coffee or soda sometimes have a dehydrating effect, which is of course counterproductive. However, unsweetened herbal tea and diluted fruit juice are acceptable too. Drink a glass of water around half an hour before each meal. You will be less hungry. It is also a good idea to have a drink along with your meal. However, drinking too much will dilute your stomach juices leading to impaired digestion. Drinking a little at a time steadily throughout the day is generally the secret of success. But what if you are the type who just forgets to drink? Not to worry! There are several apps available that you can use to remind you to drink at regular intervals. Alternatively, there are devices called drink managers that will chime a few times an hour to remind you to drink. The prerequisite for being able to drink frequently is, of course, is the easy availability of water at all times. That can be easily accomplished by having refillable water bottles (perhaps even one with a cooling insert?) with you to stay hydrated even while you're out and about. See? It's not that hard! So get yourself a glass of water now and take a refreshing water break. <![CDATA[Decor & Gift Ideas for Easter & Spring]]> 2024-02-27T00:00:00+01:00 2024-02-27T00:00:00+01:00 https://www.interismo.co.uk/info/magazine/decor-gift-ideas-for-easter-spring Interismo uk@interismo.com https://www.interismo.co.uk/ Spring is in full swing and Easter is just around the corner! To make sure they shine, the right vase is essential. It is spring again. Outside, the first flower buds open and there is already a colourful floral splendour everywhere. We have the crocuses, who happily stretch out their yellows and violets, snowdrops that shine in white splendour, and even a few violets can be seen. Now it's time to add some colourful flower accents to our own home to set the perfect mood with your own style. Of course, a floral arrangement is not complete without the right vase. Only with the right vase do flowers really make a difference. These are available in countless variations, timeless colours and exciting shapes. Unfortunately, this is rarely taken into account, whereby even the most beautiful flowers don't stand out as best they could. Flowers shine with their unique flair only with a matching vase. Some flowers should be visible from flower and leaf right down to the stem, as is the case for tulips, daffodils or hyacinths, vases made of transparent glass are perfect for this, perhaps with an elegant metal edging. Of course, the vase itself should be a unique eye-catcher. A vase of lacquered glass in appealing colours and a beautiful pattern will easily catch your eye. Then a few beautiful flowers and everything is complete. Other highlights are vases, which are themselves composed of several vases . Here you can let off steam creatively and match each opening with a different flower. This quickly creates a creative, unique mix. The imagination knows no bounds: with small vase openings, you can add violets, in the larger tulips or daffodils will suit. For more earthy tones you can work well with planters. Simply place the flower, roots/bulb and pot in a trendy planter. There are many different materials to choose from. The selection is very broad: from glass to porcelain and metal to enamel. You can then put the whole thing in the limelight by placing it on a beautiful decorative pillar, for example. Some planters are by themselves already true works of art, which would actually need no more flowers. And if you have flowers, you know where to brighten them. Additional tip: If you want the radiant colours of your beautiful flowers to really stand out, you can deliberately use coloured counterparts in the living room. Whether it is a pillow, a blanket or similar, it does not matter. It is important that the colour is correct. <![CDATA[Decorations & warm colours against those dull drab days]]> 2024-01-22T00:00:00+01:00 2024-01-22T00:00:00+01:00 https://www.interismo.co.uk/info/magazine/decorations-warm-colours-against-those-dull-drab-days Interismo uk@interismo.com https://www.interismo.co.uk/ Autumn is a beautiful season, with those radiant autumn leaves and magical evenings. Unfortunately, autumn is also the season of fog and rain and cloudy skies bathed in grey. Colours help For dull weather outside, colours can help us indoors. Colours bring life and make you feel good, they can make your own four walls attractive and create a real feel-good atmosphere. But how do we increase the feel-good factor in our living spaces without having to undertake major remodelling or even alterations or having to repaint the walls? The smart and simple answer is decoration. Wisely decorated With the right decoration, effects and accents can easily and simply be set that will dispel the everyday stress. For example, placing a nice lamp in a corner or alcove or on the windowsills will give you the perfect, bright glow you often miss on dark days. It is quite simple: switch on the lamp and switch off the approaching autumn depression. The important thing is that you buy a light bulb that produces warm light. If you sit in the cold light, you will not be too happy. Even candles and tealight stands help to create a feel-good atmosphere. The shadows cast by candles that softly flicker over the walls create liveliness in every room. Now only radiant colours are missing, which set accents and bring individual cosiness into every room. This also works very well with pillows, blankets, vases or pictures. So you are looking forward to coming home to a cosy evening or a relaxing weekend - even on dull days. Which colours to choose? Finally, the only question is which colours we should choose for which living area. Orange is supposed to have an appetite-stimulating effect and relieves heavy moods. Seen in this way, it is optimal in the dining area as well as in game rooms. Also yellow is a great colour, but it also brings the sun in to the house. Yellow is suitable for any room, it harmonises very well with darker colours and stimulates the mind. Forceful Red can be aggressive, but gentle shades of red can help to save on heating costs, because the colour gives energy and heat. Some pink will soothe the mind in the bedroom. Blue has a strong soothing, relaxing effect on most people. Green is a color that promotes creativity. Violet conveys, like purple, elegance and flair, as long as you do not exaggerate the colour. Unfortunately, dark colours always swallow too much light, which is why they should not be used too much in the winter months. Here cream and white are better alternatives.
